Since GOG doesn't allow review replies, I guess this is the only place to bring this up.

Why are people dissing GOG for "this bit of marketing" when every online retailer (Steam, Epic, etc) has the same game for the same price?

Just wondering.

I mean, I can understand the point, but direct it at the dev, not GOG.

(And those of us without a console might find the port a bit expensive, but I'm still glad to have it)

Yeah, how do people even think GoG would have anything at all to do with a game's price that they have no hand in developing or publishing? It's like getting mad at a book store for selling a book at the price on the cover.
Come to think of it though, the email GoG sent out calling this "A new adventure in the Forgotten Realms universe" is equally perplexing. Maybe something about the game makes people fail their Int rolls whether it is pricing, advertising, or reviewing.

Reading deeper into the reviews, it seems some people think GOG should have simply not put the game in the store. I'm personally glad they did. Not sure why folks would want to take the choice away from those of us who don't own consoles and never have.

I'll confess that I know very little about the history of the game, but yeah, it appears it is indeed not a "new adventure." Seems it is a 20 year old adventure. Not sure what point they were trying to make, but I don't tend to dissect email blasts very deeply.

This falls in line with the price point on the latest (fifth?) rendition of Myst. Some folks were happy to have it. I'll not buy it until it is very deeply discounted.

Well, GoG only emiled you the tagline the devs put out for this port. Like the price, this tagline and game description is the same as on steam. And the way I see it, it probably was the same tagline back then.

Edit: Scratch the whole thing. The tagline and the store page game description are from the back of the box of the original console version. So yeah, it's not even marketing is new

Wow, I usually eyeroll hard when people cry out "lazy port," but this really is just minimal effort. I'll still be getting it and appreciate we got it, but it's sad how little they care about anything beyond making it work on a pc.
Still - GOG is only a storefront. It's the developers that are blurting out the advertisement and setting the price. GOG only provide the space to advertise and store the game files, as well as the bandwidth for mass downloading (and a possible client for those that like that).

In a way the advertisement is not really wrong. You only get the original Baldur's gate here, so this add-on is in essence new for that older game, even if the add-on itself in not that new at all. It's only now that this add-on is provided for this platform, and not years ago (even if the add-on is old, the "port" is new).
Redacted (silly moment of unnecessary arguing on the internet :) )

GoG copy the "back of the box" for all older games released.
Even games from the '80s got "Advanced graphics and groundbreaking AI".
It is bad? Personally, when I read these descriptions, I think that GOG will only become worse.

Anyway...
I reviewed the game 3 stars as it was, and is, IMHO, a boring game.
I also bought the game, at the time, for less price than it is now on the store.
I think it is overpriced, but not removing a star for this.

What IS crap, though, is just packing the whole game in an emulator and sell it as is.
And GoG has an influence on this; they proud themselves of a curated store. To ensure only the best to customer. Well... It is not true.
There is so much crap on here that, proportionally, is much worse than other stores.

The game is definitely a 3/5, and I think was designed to play all 3 classes paralel.
Without that, it's insanely boring, and the flaws are hilariously obvious.

Still overprices as heck. Even with the brand-recognition, it'd worth maybe 12 bucks, top.
