Hello, All.

Please forgive me, but I'm not tech savvy.

I'm playing BG3 on my home desktop. I'm active military so I often get sent to different places. I purchased a gaming laptop so I can continue to play while I'm away.

However... I downloaded the game to my laptop, and I only have the option to start a new game with a new character. Is there a way I can download my progress? I'm hoping GOG saves it somewhere. Thanks for any help!
Take a look in C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\ on your desktop machine. I think you can just grab the profile directories and drop them into the corresponding directory on your laptop to move the save game files over.

Note that I haven't personally tried it with BG3, but that's usually how this sort of thing works.

Unfortunately, GOG cloud saves are disabled because Larian has their cross-platform cloud save thing going on... but last I heard, that wasn't working. Unless something has changed (which is likely... it's not like I monitor the status of that feature very closely), I think manual sync is the only option right now.

I should add, since you specifically stated that you're not tech savvy, that the AppData directory is hidden and doesn't show up normally. You can either just click on the address bar at the top and add "\AppData\ when you're in your user home (c:\users\<your username>), or you can go to that directory, then click view -> hidden items to make the AppData directory visible, and double-click it from there.

You can also open a windows explorer window (just double-click any folder... you just need a window with an address bar) and type %LOCALAPPDATA% in there, and it'll take you to c:\users\<your username>\AppData\Local

If that's all stuff you already know, then solid... but you never know someones knowledge level, so better to err on too much info than too little.

there was a way called 'cross saves' which is a option you can tick to have your savegame sent to gog servers for stoorage online but Larian busted it when they made the playstation patch and its currently STILL not working... even through ticking the box makes a circle spin like it should be , the actual server never takes the save file

as already pointed out you have to backup your local save folder as the only workaround and that makes issues if the two computers have very different parts like a Gforce in one and Intel in the other... in that case only copy the [story] folder across, that way you only swap the actual saves

mathaetaes is correct in their explaination. It is basically copy & paste and guaranteed to work if you can run BG3 on your laptop as good as on your desktop PC.

You can copy & paste this line 1:1 in your Windows Explorer's address bar to easy access your savegame

%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story

copy all of the files and folders over to your laptop and you are good to go. Works in both ways. If you want it more convenient, I personally recommend setting up Google Drive where you synchronise that folder and make it available offline. But that is only when you have to switch so often that cloud savegame would be good for you.

Though I would prefer the manual USB stick transfer, especially when you get assigned to a place with no/bad wifi.

Good luck!

Oh, and should you run into unexpected issues, you can use this

it is made for the Steam version but a lot of information there can be used for the GOG.com version as well. ;-)
