Lutris (lutris.net/games/baldurs-gate-3) is your friend here. Either connect your GOG account, or grab the install files from GOG.com, and let Lutris handle wine setup.

Last time I played BG3 this way was probably a year or two ago, and it ran like it was native. Recent ProtonDB (protondb.com/app/1086940) reports seem favorable too.

the word is Mint 20.3 & Nvidia drivers 5.35 don't play nice together but rolling back to 5.25 fixes that

Early access worked fine through Heroic Launcher

You just need to manually tell it to use the DirectX11 Executable and --skip-launcher

I have installed the release version and have been running it with Wine 8.0.

Vulkan version (bg3.exe): Runs out of the box, but has some graphics glitches (random colorful artifacts). Not unplayable, but annoying.

DX11 version (bg3_dx11.exe): Runs after installing dxvk. No graphics glitches. Seems to work fine so far

Larian launcher: Doesn't start. I think it needs .net and I didn't install that. Since it's not required to play the game, I don't mind

Yes I've been playing it with WINE. But I run the game's exe rather than thru the launcher.

I had to tinker a bit since the new version didn't work with the same setup I had for the early access version. I'm using adamhm's generic wine wrapper, which can be found elsewhere in the GOG forum, but the same approach should work with Lutris. My system is Ubuntu 20.04, with 1660Ti and NVidia 525.125.06 drivers. I've heard that people with newer drivers have run into some trouble. It is a rather old system, with an i7 processor that is over 10 years old and no SSD.

Wine version: Lutris-GE-Proton7-1. I used standard Wine 6.5 with the early access version, but it no longer works.

Additional instructions:

Run wine configuration in the prefix. In libraries, add cchromaeditorlibrary64, and set it to disabled. The game won't launch if I don't do this.

The Larian launcher won't work. Run bg3.exe from the bin directory. I also tried the DirextX 11 version, which I have heard can provide better performance, but it crashed with my configuration. It might need to have some DirectX libraries installed using winetricks.

I played it for a few hours last night. I got through character creation, a decent amount of exploration, a number of conversations, and a few fights. It didn't crash. Performance was choppy in complicated places, but much of this could be due to my old system that is suboptimal for today's games. The next time I get into it, I'll try lower quality settings and see what happens. So far, I have encountered a couple minor bugs, but nothing serious. Saving the game frequently is wise since even a small bug can cause problems.

The problem is if you want to use Cross Save, no? If I'm playing on my PC and want to move to Steam Deck for example, if the Linux/Steam Deck version isn't able to load a 64bit .NET framework which LariLauncher.exe requires because there's no wine prefix option for this, then I can't log into the launcher and get the saves from my PC session. Kind of a bummer.
