I am not sure why I am having such big issues running BG3 to the point of having everything at low settings and the game still is slow sometimes. Tried overclocking the graphic card but still isn't running great (and causes other issues on top of it). My RAM is only 8GB but that's still within the minimum req. Any help is appreciated.

Well - 8Gb is not great, so you won't get a great performance. The minimum is a minimum for a reason. You will be able to run the game, but nothing more.

Anyway - 8Gb system RAM does not tell us a lot. The game depends on more than RAM alone. Pleas at least tell us what processor you are using and what graphic card. If those are below specs, then you will have lots of trouble trying to run the game.

Looking at your screenshot you attached, you are definitely hitting the line of minimum spec for sure. When games show minimum specs what that means is, in theory, you can execute the game file, and it will load but your performance will be extremely bad. Playable tends to be a subjective word, so in lieu of a definitive definition everyone can agree on, lets just say playable does not equal good experience while playing.

First I would ask, as your screenshot shows you have a spindle drive (non-SSD), I'd be sure that neither Windows, nor BG3 are installed on it. That will greatly reduce performance on an already under-performant PC. Some people use spindle drives (HDDs) for backing stuff up and as such I assume you are doing that with the drive but I always double check when helping others.

While your Ryzen processor is a few ticks above the minimums I wouldn't expect that it will do as well as something thats a little bit newer then that (your processor is from Q2 2017 and your playing a game made for most common hardware for 2023. So thats a 6 year gap). Also your graphics card is from the same year 2017 and will again, under-perform.

You might try adding more RAM first (because it's the cheapest of the 3 things) and see if that helps. I'm not sure it will, but 8GB is at the minimum line and that does not even include the 1.2GB RAM that windows needs in addition to your 8GB for the game. (again these are game specs that need to be added to the Windows spec requirements). If that doesn't help, your GPU will likely be the next thing to look at. You don't need the latest and greatest but something within the last 2-3 years will likely do much better. You will more then likely see an improvement with that. Otherwise you'll be looking at a CPU upgrade and at that point, your probably looking at a new build since you'll be grabbing a new motherboard as well.

Those are the things I would look at if I was you. Just some advise. You should go your own direction on this however.

I doubt it.
BG3 is running great here, on a GTX970+Ryzen1700. (1080P, most settings on High)

Questions remain:
- Resolution?
- (Game/Windows) installed on an SSD or not?

Sounds strange, it runs fine in 1080p on my desktop (don't know what graphic settingsm haven't played around with them yet) that's honestly pretty garbage compared to modern mid-tier gaming PC standards. I only have long load times, but that's to be expected.

For comparison, only HDD, Geforce GTX 1060, Intel Skylake Core i5 6500 (IIRC), 16 GB RAM (aka the only thing above average).

So maybe you should think about getting a RAM upgrade? (And I for sure should start thinking about an everything upgrade, but I'm appaled by modern hardware prices)
