game just doesnt start 4 out of 5 times and is stuck at 100% loading

Well, you haven't listed your specs in detail, so it's hard for anyone to make suggestions. Contact GOG tech support, I'm sure they can suggest a few things. Without a detailed list of your hardware and software, it could be a sizable number of things...;)

Game runs like butter here, so it has to be a configuration/hardware problem on your end--of some kind. Have you tried running the D3d11 version of the game through the "LariLauncher" that requires .net 6.0? That runs well for me without running Galaxy in the background--but you can use the D3d exe in the game directory, too.

Also, when you run Galaxy, use the verify installation option from the BG3 page inside Galaxy. I had to run that before the game ran properly for me, IIRC.

100% loading would probably be an issue syncing something... if you have been playing offline with dozens of save games and did not trim the fat before starting hotfix2 [Larian turned cross-saves back on + increased all menu settings to ultra] then yes that could really take some time

I had that happen with DirectX while it started fine using Vulcan. But that likes to crash randomly.
Disabling the GOG overlay fixed the problem and now it starts fine with DirectX too.

I made a shortcut to bg3_dx11.exe in the game's /bin folder and use that. Using the launcher hangs my game at startup, but not if I start it directly.

I have the same issue. Starting the game from GOG > Larian Launcher > Game causes it to hang at 100% for at least 5min or so before actually starting. This is using DX11 since I want to play in HDR. Vulkan starts normally but gives me stuttering in some scenes. Using a 3070.

If I start the game directly or from the Geforce Experience > Larian Launcher then it works fine.


I would ignore the GOG launcher but it seems like achievements don't register if I don't use the GOG launcher?

I at least start GoG up before logging in to check for hotfix patches but then click my shortcut to start it.
