Hi, I am just wondering how multiplayer works with the GoG version? Is it just Peer to peer?

I am asking because my self and my partner have been wanting to get it, but have been unable to justify 2 copy's on Steam.

Thanks
you need; Galaxy, a Larian account, the best ping/ system should host your game, every one needs the same build with the same mods installed in the same order + you can't play against Steam without hacking the UI

So then, do you need to register your game with Larina, or dose it not matter?

Not worried about mods, so that's not really an issue.
it is possible to get peer to peer working without a Larian account but the muliplayer / attachment tracking system assumes it so i sugest thats the best option

a Larian account links any dlc, what badges you earned and the fact that your pal is looking for a bg3 person to play multiplayer against

Yes, BG3 uses peer to peer. It should work fine if you play via LAN (using the LAN tab in the Multiplayer menu). If you don't, you or your partner needs the ability to forward ports (the ability to do so is enough, BG3 will do it for you via UPnP). If you and your partner are behind CGNAT or Dual Stack Lite, connectivity will only work via Steam because the Steam version supports Steam Datagram Relay and uses the Steam network to tunnel connections in case a direct connection is not possible. SDR requires both sides (client and host) to have the game on Steam.

You can run BG3 DRM-less by starting the game via its .exe, but then only LAN and direct connect are available as multiplayer options.

This has answered what I was after. Thank you very much.

I have 1 purchase installed on 2 pc's in the same household. I install the offline files on both pc's (have to be the same version ofc) and it works flawlessly, with firewall exceptions, through Lutris on Linux. This is LAN, and I love it. :P

You don't need a Larian account for multiplayer, only for cross-saves between GOG and Steam.

I'm playing with two friends and none of us has a Larian account. Two of us play on GOG, another plays on Steam. I am the host and I only have to give them the direct connection code from the multiplayer menu.

edit: If anyone has problems connecting, maybe check out Larian's FAQ on multiplayer issues with many suggestions, e.g. using a VPN for LAN mode or forward the ports in your router that are mentioned in its last paragraph.
