step 1 image = get him wet
step 2 image = drop ice trap
step 3 image = open battle with Dex Hex or icebolt

use high ground and bless if you want icebolt but a Hex is 100% and ice traps are placed so never miss

At least with 6.9 I still did it like this:

Only Shadowheart present (or any other Cleric)
Stand next to Bernard
Engage Roundbased Mode
Command: Drop
Disengage
Snatch weapon
Run away
Use Elevator
Return later and all is forgiven

P.s.: Doesnt work reliably in "Honor" mode, I would assume, since Command: Drop doesnt hit 100%

I always just shoved him off the ledge and down to the bottom, then parked a couple of characters with susser flowers next to his posse while I took them out (sometimes shoving them off cliffs too, if I could) in the turns he spent working his way his way back up.

As soon as he got back up, I'd bait him to and edge and shove him off again.

I don't think I've ever had him survive more than 2 of those falls, and it takes like 5 or 6 turns for him to make his way back up.

Honestly, falling damage is probably 30% of my damage output in a given playthrough.
I only ever use falling damage if it doesnt risk loot. ;-)

I've never lost loot to shoving Bernard off the tower, in any of my playthroughs. I'm not even sure how you'd do that.

It does sometimes mean a longer walk down to loot his corpse... but that's just time.
I was only reacting to the fact you said you deal so much falling damage in your playthroughs.

Ooh... yeah. There really aren't many places where pushing someone off a ledge won't leave them accessible.

If they take falling damage, it implies they landed on a surface. If they landed on a surface, they're accessible.

Some of the Act 3 fights have bottomless pits, but as far as I know, they don't take falling damage. They just disappear from the game.
