What is the controll scheme for this title? Can you use the arrow keys. or would a joystick be better? Does anybody have a recommendation for a good joystick that would work for this GOG release on a Vista OS?
There is a possibility to control it with keyboard, you can set your own key config, but as (almost) always with simulators - it's better with joystick.

(btw arrow keys are for gear control by default :)

My knowledge in spectrum of joysticks is very limited, can't say which one is good. But my Genius Metalstrike 3D works good (in Win7) - all axes, buttons and throttle control.

Thanks, I'm really interested in this game, but I don't want to waste money I don't need to. I'll get a joystick.
I use a (buget-price) PC/PS3 gamepad for playing this; maybe not quite as good as a joystick, but very comfortable and smooth. I'd definitely recommend to not use the keyboard to control the turrets/planes for this game, at least I could never get even close to comfortable with that control scheme! I reckon that a non-brand gamepad might be cheaper than a joystick, too.
Get a joystick even an el cheapo Joystick. You won't enjoy this without it.
I've even obtained a old working USB Microsoft Joystick from a second hand/.thrift store that works good for about the same cost as this title at GoG.
