Having played almost all recent Spiderweb games, I wished I could play the old Avernum games as well.

Now my wish came true. :)

I highly recommend you all to get this pack as AFAIK this is the only way (except Spiderweb's own store) to get all games in one pack.

me too
I'm guessing this does not include the recently released Avernum: Escape from the Pit? (Which I believe is a remake of Avernum 1)

You would be correct since it's a remake of Avernum 1(which is in the collection) which in turn was a remake of Exile: Escape from the Pit, I guess they felt there was no reason to include it but still having Avernum 1-6 and Blades of Avernum isn't bad

I already have 4, 5, and 6, and the remake of the first elsewhere. Would you recommend I still get this pack? are 2 and 3, and the smaller modules from the blades of Avernum worth it?

So these are the original versions of the game and Steam has the remakes for parts 4-6?

Any reasons why the originals would be better than the remakes (apart from remakes of parts 2 and 3 not being available yet)?

The only game of this series that has been remade is the first (Avernum: Escape from the Pit) . the ones available on steam (4-6) are exactly the same as the ones contained here.

It's my understanding that the author of these games was intending to remake the first 3 at least.
Thanks for clearing that up. I hate how Steam often chooses to use the Steam release date and not the original game release date.
We whined about it on the Geneforge GOG forums and now it's finally here.

Bought.

Any recommendations on how to start, or just jump right in?
Instant Buy - Checked the site from work to see what was new today and couldn't wait to get home and buy this. Already downloaded and installed. Thanks - GOG

It is, isn't it? I feel like I'm ready a nice book while playing this game. I really enjoy reading all the descriptions and dialogues. They have some charm that can't be easily explained.
Is Escape from the Pit a faithful remake of Avernum 1, or is there likely to be any confusion moving from the new edition of 1 to the old edition of 2?

Remake of first Avernum has at least adjusted gameplay to his altered engine. There are some additional quests too, I believe.

It's worth buying the remake even if you finished the original.
