It says in the description 'includes the original versions of Avernum 1 through 6 and Blades of Avernum.'

Well ok, are there updated versions of all of these games? The only thing I can find on GOG is Avernum 1: Escape from The Pit, Avernum 2: Crystal Souls and Avernum 3: Ruined World. Are these the exact same games I am getting in the Avernum Saga or are those updated versions?

The first 3 games in the series have gone through 3 iterations.

First there's the Exile games, which have subtitles like Exile: Escape from the Pit. These games are available, in full versions, on the developer's website, but they're so old (in particular, they're 16-bit Windows programs) that getting them to run on a modern computer is difficult.

Then, there's Avernum 1-3, which is what you get in the Avernum Complete Saga. These are *not* the most recent versions, but they're not the oldest versions, either, and can be played on a modern system without too many issues I believe (though Avernum 1's movement controls are awkward, especially if you lack a numeric keypad IIRC).

The most recent versions have the Avernum name, but also have the subtitles (for example, Avernum: Escape from the Pit), which are designed for modern hardware. (Worth noting that I don't agree with some of the changes that were made, particularly with regard to the growth system.)

Avernum 4-6, as contained in the Complete Saga, are the only versions of these games; there's no other versions, as these have not been updated.

Worth noting that the developer makes demo versions of all their games available on their website, which work just like the foll versions except that there's a sharewares/demo demon (or some other excuse) that will stop you from going past a certain point, and there may be some screen advising you to buy/register the game when you quit. In particular, saves from the demo should work with the full game.
Thank you for the info. Do you know if there are any plans to update Avernum 4 through 6? I am trying to decide if I should just buy the complete saga (1-6) for the reduced price or if buying the first three seperate remasters is worth paying for instead.

The games are on sale again and I'm wondering same.

Did you end up purchasing and playing the games?

My understanding (although I may be wrong)...

After watching a number of videos, it looks like Avernum 1 - 3 were remade with Avernum 4 - 6 tech, so the tail end of the Saga collection is already up-to-date.

That's what it looks like to me. ;)
