Hey guys from ATOM Team ! It seems that there are developpers posting here from time to time, so there goes my feedback. Disclaimer: I have not finished the game yet.
I'd like to say: awesome work guys. This game is outstanding. The technical quality is quite good for an indie game - admittedly, the landscapes and vegetation are not breathtakingly beautiful compared to recent AAA productions, but it's still quite clean and well done, with a commendable attention to details. And I know what I'm talking about, being coding an isometric 3D RPG myself.
But in my opinion where the game really stands out is the writing. People were complaining about the English translation at first but now it is very good. I could say that the game is as good as the old Fallouts, but honestly, I think it is even better. The scenario and game world have very interesting political, sociological and ethnological undertones, that give it, I think, more depth and maturity than there is in the Fallout universe (that does not go way further than "blah-blah deep State conspiracy"). Kuddos guys.
Some things are especially well done:
- the adventure of Kogan, which are absolutely written in the original style of Howard's Conan novels. Either it's very easy to imitate, or you are genius writters, I'm not sure.
- the diaries of soldiers, scientists etc. are awesome, I just feel like I lived a slice of USSR life :D
- speaking of this, the story of the start of WW3 in Berlin is so plausible and well told that it made me shiver (yes, I was already born then and I remember the Cold War),
- the lovecraftian hints are puzzling and creepy just enough.
Now some remarks because a feedback is a feedback :
- are you going to replace NPCs photographies by handdrawn portraits? The first handdrawn portraits found in game, like for example Doctor Mikoyan and Trader Yashin, are awesome, too bad the rest is just photographies, it interferes with game immersion in my opinion.
- breaches of the 4th wall are a little bit too frequent in my opinion (at least in Krasnoznameny): a little is awesome, but too many interferes with the immersion too ("Verfremdungseffekt", I know, but but in reasonable measure!)
- as was said in many other places, translations in other languages would be awesome, namely French, language of the decadent Maurice Druon (where did that come from anyway ?).
