Is there any way to run Atlantis: The Lost Tales in a window? I'm currently using an old, small monitor but the game is older still and looks pretty blocky. Otherwise it seems to be running fairly well.

You can use either D3DWindower or DxWnd

http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/129-d3dwindower/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/
didn't work.
D3DWindower has to be run with admin rights. Also, Windows 95/98 compatibility modes could impede windowed mode.

edit: hmm, I can't get it to work too. :/
Anyway, I made a new thread on DxWnd forum, hope that someone will help. ;)

lthompson-22: didn't work.
Ok, I got an answer and it just confirms what I already said. It didn't worked for me earlier, because for some reason I'm unable to uncheck compatibility settings on my Windows XP machine, but no problem to do this on Windows 7.

I'll write a short guide how to run this game in windowed mode here:

1. download and install Atlantis game (it's better to not install it in Program files folder, a dedicated folder for GOG games, i.e. C:\GOG Games is the best solution)
2. download DxWnd from here - https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/ and extract the content of .rar file wherever you want
3. THIS IS IMPORTANT - right-click on the game shortcut (or Atlantis.exe in game folder), select "Properties" and then "Compatibility tab" and uncheck "Run this program in compatibility mode for"
4. go where you extracted the content of DxWnd .rar file, right-click on dxwnd.exe and select "Run as administrator"
5. in DxWnd window right-click anywhere in the white area and select "Add"
6. in a new window, set the path to the game .exe (Atlantis.exe) in "Path" field (you can also set the name, but it's not necessary) and click Ok
7. and that's it! You should be able to run it in windowed mode now - right click in DxWnd window on a new task you just created and select "Run"

Thanks very much for looking into this.

I only have XP right now, but I will definitely try this when I get back to my own computer.

Ok, if you want to remove compatibility in Windows XP, and it doesn't work for you like in my case, you can try removing it via registry:

Run regedit.exe (click on start button > run > regedit.exe), go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers and right-click on Atlantis.exe (path to game\Atlantis.exe), select delete and confirm.
I'm playing windowed through this method and I having random freezes/crashes. It happens especially during dialogues, freezing the game and looping the last bit of sound until it crashes. Don't know if this related to play it windowed or not since I can't play the game fullscreen due to the resolution used.
