First I have to say that I'm eager to play the game and that it would be great if there was a Linux version. If such a time arrives count with me for beta testing.

In the meantime, I can't quite make the game run and I was wandering if anyone could give some advice. So far the furthest I've gotten is to make it load and start a new game, but I had to quit and now it doesn't even load (nor crashes).

I've tried with playonlinux, lutris and wine on its own.

Anyway, I will keep the game (even if it I can't make it work) as encouragement for devs to keep working on games like this (that I love).

Keep it up and give a thought to the linux version, even if you don't make it official and it's just available on discord or something like that.

copy and paste from steam forums. this might help.

game in Linux - for us few :)
install game from steam with Proton support (i used proton 4.1.x)
then you have the following options:
- enjoy out of the box gaming experience (no tricks needed, you are a lucky one) from steam
- enjoy the game with WINE, running from terminal

In case your WINE setup does include directX11 support, you can enjoy the game from steam also, using custom launch options
Just use: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
exactly as i typed it in bold
and you are good to go!
have fun!

PS: if you play and enjoy the game, leave a report in https://www.protondb.com/, for others to see. It helps other users with different setups !
Thx a lot.

I bought the game on GOG because I'm not very fond of Steams DRM, despite acknowledging that they are the greatest oportunity for linux gaming since... EVER.

Anyway. GOT IT WORKING!!! yay! out of Steam. I leave here the process just in case anyone (including me) needs it:

First download Wine-GE (GloriousEggroll)
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/wine-ge-custom/releases/

Unpack it and copy it to ~/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine/
You might need to create the "wine" folder (I didn't have it)

After that you can either install Astrox from scratch or just change the wine version to Wine-GE

That did the trick for me. The game loads and plays, albeit a bit choppy, but I'll see if something can be done and if so I will post it here too.

Thx again momoguru for the game AND the fast reply to the thread

Does not work on Debian 11.4.0 (WINE 5.0.3), AMD Ryzen 5 3500U's Radeon Vega 8.

All builds from 0.0128b to 0.0134 crash on loading "New Campaign," "Continue" and "Sandbox." Other Unity-based are working alright: "Slime Rancher" (3D), "Seasons after Fall," "Eldest Souls," "Broforce," "The Messenger," "Soulless: Ray of Hope," "Slime-san: Superslime Edition." Non-Unity "18 Wheels of Steel: Haulin'," "Haegemonia: Legions of Iron" work too. This has something to do with how "Astrox Imperium" is done.
