There are some YT Vids popping up these days but i'm still not sure what to think of the game.

Would you advise buying atrox?

In my case, i'm a x3 veteran. So the excel menus are not that shoking for me^^ I'm desperate for a new space game but there is so much crap out there, so i won't buy another disappointing EA title untill i'm sure it fits to me. The space revival in recent years is good but it hasen't redeemed its promise yet - imo.

I'm sick of survival games and what i've seen about the life support kinda looks annoying for me. I want to enjoy the vastness of space and i'm not motivated to do the Ark thing (run to the fire to warm up and back to chop rocks in the cold). So how annoying is it and is there a chance to turn it off? I'm not a fan of these tamagotchi mechanics.

Will there be more fleets available? The game is advertised as relaxing. In x3 i liked roid mining from time to time - mixing hands on and full auto mine while i'm reading some papers. Is that possible with Atrox too?

Also: How annoying is the grind? Its a little confusing to see a game advertised with the word "grind". Especially since its most of the time a time sink without purpose or just a way to slow down progression. So which role does it playt in atrox?

It says there is no mouse aiming. But what is it then? What i've seen so far could be described as select one out of a few targets and press a button till the job is done. It would be disappointing if its just that.

I'm also missing some scifi/space themed stuff ingame - like turrets and devices. The current names look very generic like basic, advanced etc. Shield bomb, armor bomb... Will these things get more flavour? Like better names and differentiation. Those menus with shop items look like they're miles long and it would be great to find and compare the stuff you want in a simple fashion.

Might sound picky but i'm playing space games for decades and i know what i want and what not :P

I'm only a few hours in and so am probably missing some nuance, but here's my perspective on at least the early game.

Life support sucks and really needs to be majorly rebalanced or removed at some point. Interesting idea but the implementation is very much a 'chop wood and run back to the fire' kind of thing. That being said, an option was recently added to nerf or disable it so if you don't want it you don't need to deal with it right now.

Gameplay is very close to Eve Online, but single player and with the ability to have some NPC ships tag along. It's not a full bore autonomous fleet/econ sim like X universe. You also don't really dogfight...yes you can use keys or stick to steer the ship but guns are simply given a target and automatically spin around doing their thing. And for AFK mining, well, Eve was *the* AFK mining sim and that mechanic has certainly been carried over admirably.

The grind is a real thing, and is annoying. Starter ship is lame and you're looking at lots and lots of work to upgrade to something that can survive beyond the first couple of systems. Hopefully missions will get some economic rebalancing in the near future so it's not so overbearing early on. It's early roads and the developer seems to be extremely committed, so I'm not too worried about this long term.

A lot of the ingame descriptions are boring and/or stubbed out, no denying that. I don't know what the developer's intentions are in that regard. But this is a very early, very rough cut dev project, not one of those fake beta releases that big companies like to do for marketing reasons, so I don't think its fair to be too harsh about the content and atmosphere at this point.

Whether you'd enjoy it mostly comes down to which aspects of X you find most appealing, and which if any elements of Eve were major attractions or turn offs. Astrox clearly wants to be a solo push-button fight/mine/explore/trade experience, not as much heavy econ simming or large scale fleet management. I'm quite alright with this, having played both Eve and X for many years, but YMMV.
Well i have played all X series ecept the last ones that made the game shit series.... like when you could only fly 1 ship... anyways and played eve asome times long periods. I like space games and this game seems simple enough since its still in alpha i had no problems with bugs yet... it got not much as for events or something but already plays good. and i already had a feeling this game is gonna be awesome since you got a shitload of different ships and skills to learn. skills like eve online and different ships like eve online and X. If they get building bases in this game its gonna be more like the X series. Any ways i like the game. Ow yeah since its alpha you can adjust the save files to get more money and skill points to explore the game more. since getting money in this state will take you ages :P.

you mention life support? i have no problem with that. i just mine some and get the money mined to buy some cheap life support stuff then you are all set.. hell you can even buy with the 40k in the beginning some cheap life support thingy's and you are all set for the simple missions... it isnt that hard to think how to do it... dont go like this game must be tooo easy i freaking getting bored with that tought.

Thx NovusBogus, you nailed it for me <3

I know its an indy so i can't expect a lot of fancy stuff ... but i think i'll just follow the game till smth substantial will change.
I doubt that the current mix of mechanics will be that fun for me.

The Dev diarys look like he's a nice guy and i'm not up to being harsh on content - just a bit realistic after years of EA. So its better to wait and see. I've never p(l)ayed^^ EVE so i can't comment on that.

I guess i check out the mod forums and see if there's something nice around for my old games.

I don't like survival thing too, but here life support is a good feature, it does not prevent playing, it is not stressing but we must still be carefull, I thing it is a well balanced feature.
Sure, if you don't upgrade your life support, your game will be hellish.

The grind is part of the game, but again I think it is a well balanced feature. And a tool was added to use your more advanced character to copy it for a new one, so you don't have to start from scratch if you want to try something else.

The flavour is still here, example you can have different styles of lasers (I don't mean color, but some are more powerfull, or fire more often, or have better range, and sure there are different levels in those styles).
