To anybody else who found this via googling this very question:
While undocked, bring up the map and click on a star system. There will be an option to activate the warp drive. It will tell you how far away it is and how much warp fuel you need.
Electron Orbs are worth one fuel unit, and can be harvested from stars, just hit them with an excavator as if you were mining an asteroid. Basic fuel is worth twenty units, Improved fuel is worth fifty units, and Advanced fuel is worth one hundred and twenty units.
