So what are the graphics like compared to X4, some of the images look fine while other things look bad from screen shots.

You can tell what the graphic looks like by checking any video from the game from the last half year. And you are the only one that can tell is that good enough for you and if this is similar or not to X games.

Also, any "Lets Play" video will tells you what the gameplay looks like but to answer directly to that part of your question - if you expect X type of gameplay, Astrox isn't your game. Astrox is often called "EVE Offline" for a reason.

The game is still in development, but my subjective opinion (backed with 2250+ hours play time on GOG and some more time on Steam) is that the game offers enough content to justify its prize.
