Do asteroids re-spawn?

If so (i think they do), how can i prevent that?

In D:\!_gog-games\astrox imperium\Astrox Imperium_Data\MOD\saves\Scuanor\player_options.txt i changed
WORLD_OPTIONS_resource_respawn;1 to
WORLD_OPTIONS_resource_respawn;0
but that does not seem to help.

I like a bit more realistic setting for that.
Sure, "new" Asteroids are sometimes caught up in gravitywells of other objects when they pass through the solar system,
but... not at _that_ high a rate.
yes, here is how it works.

if you have respawn to 1.0, if you completely mine a rock away, it will return when the map is reloaded. if turned off (0.0) then the rock is gone forever, and will NOT respawn. 0.0 to 1.0 in between, is the chance that that rock will respawn.

so setting it to 0.10, will give the rock a 10% chance to respawn after it has been completely wiped out.
Would that mean that with the respawn less than 1.0, the universe will eventually run out of asteroids? (And yes, I am also seriously worried about the heat death of our current universe)

Is there (or do you plan to add) a way to ensure that new asteroids (when having respawn setting lower than 1.0) will somehow appear?

I trust that you really mean "gone forever", so would the only way of preserving some resources be to set the value to 1.0 before mining the very last asteroid?
While reading those posts, i thought of some other things that might need a bit more explaining:

If i switch off respawning, do i need to start a new game for them to not respawn?
Because i kinda have the feeling, it does not work if i switch it off midgame.
I still mine around in the very first system and i am very sure that i cleaned out the space
near that first station a couple of times.

Or does that switch only work on sectors we explore _AFTER_ we changed it?
I.E. if i switch it off after placing 1 hour and then switch it on after 20 hours,
do i have to fly to all the sectors i visited previously (the ones that got switched off regarding asteroid respawning),
for the switching-spawning-on to happen again?
the respawn occurs when the map is loaded. if the respawn is turned off or less than 1.0, it will have a chance of regrowing once it has been completely mined away. there are 2 types of rocks, large resource rocks, and cluster rocks. the small cluster rocks will always return, but don't hold much ore. the larger rocks are effected by the respawn.

with respawn off, if you mined clear an entire system... the only rocks that would be there would be the small cluster rocks (if any). Not all maps have cluster rocks, but most do. Any respawn setting less than 1.0 becomes a 'chance' that the rock might respawn when the map is loaded. The lower this number, the less of a chance the rock will return to the map.

The rock must be mined away completely to become available for respawn.
That was exceedingly detailed. Thank you :-)
