I did a test install of Assassin's Creed yesterday and the GOG installer wanted to install PhysX. Even though I allowed it, it should have aborted because I have a version of PhysX that is three years newer than when the Director's Cut was released.

I went searching and could find no indication that PhysX is used for Assassin's Creed. In fact I found two places that stated:
game engine = Scimitar
physics engime = Havok

So why is the GOG installer trying to install or update PhysX?

What were you going to say? At least you're the only one curious enough to attempt to answer me:-)
I keep thinking that I must be wrong but the more I search the more I find it's Havok.
I submitted a support request yesterday. Maybe I'll hear from a GOG person eventually.
Although it looks like not many people are interested in this topic I'll post and update.

I heard from GOG tech support:
"As far as we are aware Assassin's Creed requires libraries provided by
PhysX even though it uses Havok."

I was pleased that they responded. I thought that they would consider it a stupid question:-)
If you already have PhysX installed, you can just abort the installation at the end of the setup. The game is already installed at that point and will work anyway.

It's not that I wasn't interested, I was following but had nothing to add.
I am having so much trouble with this as well
