Thanks for continuing to work on this. I'm just looking around to decide what to treat myself to from Gog and have been intrigued by this for a long time. Your hard work may just sway me! :)

Thanks a lot.

Yay!
Thank you a lot! This is brilliant!
I wanted to give your patch a try, but when i try to install it, I get:

Unable to find data file
Please reinstall Arx Fatalis

Maybe that's because I'm running it in Wine, but i hope you can still make something out of these two lines.

Umm, it's not a patch file, just updated exe and dll files so you extract the archive to Arx Fatalis folder and overwrite the old files.
OK, I'll give it a try. You could have written that in the readme (yes, some people read those ^^)

EDIT: Ok, works fine, but performance is still bad when gernerating a character or viewing the character sheet. as I said, I'm playing on Wine, it's a known problem. Performance in these parts is better in Crossover, I'm not sure if your patch made it better or if it is Crosover.

Well, thanks for the patch :) I guess it would be best, if the 3D character model on the character sheet could be replaced by a 2D image of some kind, but that would be overkill.

You may have to wait until the Arx Libertatis project makes a release. That might take (quite) a while as they aim to replace all proprietary libraries (directx mostly) with open source variants (OpenGL, OpenAL...).

edit: link fixed

Yeah, I know about that project, but as you said, that might take quite some time, if it ever gets finished.

So basically my choice is to either deal with some minor slowdowns on one single screen or wait for years. I think I'll take the slowdowns ;)

Just wanted to pop in and say how grateful I am for your work! Arx Fatalis is one of my favourite games because of its atmosphere and mechanics.

Many thanks for your time and for keeping this awesome game playable on newer systems!
Thanks for the link it helped a lot.
This worked for me. You should now be called "Saint Nuky".
Intro already works 10x better. Thanks for this :)
Just to let everyone know that Arx Libertatis mentioned above has made it's first release and windows binaries are available. I tested it a bit and it 'works' but there are severe issues. About half of voice overs do not work including opening cinematics narrative and physics are clitchy at best (collision detection is broken and throwing rock for example hits something mid air and stays there floating and I had hard time not falling thru the elevator.) and there seem to be some framerate/speed issues (occasionally I crossed room in a flash for example) but original had them as well.

Still, this is good change to test it if you had issues with the 1.21 and/or unofficial patch version. Arx Libertatis might, despite above mentioned issues, work better for you and testing and reporting any issues with it might help speed up development. There also seem to be both 32-bit and 64-bit executables (could not test the later) so it might work (better) with 64-bit OS.
