The goblin cook is stuck outside the king's room so he can't make the special delivery for me. I have tried restarting the game several times with the same result. Would it be possible to locate the "saved game" file, save it then reinstall the game? If so, where is the "saved game" file located and what is its name?. Any other workarounds for this problem other than starting from scratch?
Thanks.

Saved game location.

Arx was designed so that it could be completed even if you went axe crazy and killed everyone, so if a reinstall doesn't work, you should still be able to complete the quest. It's just that you might have to slightly kill a few goblins to do it. One of them has to have the key for the room the idol is in...

Reinstalling probably won't fix it because it's likely that the problem has become part of the save file.
You don't have to kill the goblins to get in there; if your Sneak is 51 or higher you can pickpocket the key from either patrolling guard (both have it) by bumping into him and then clicking on the bag icon (to the bottom left) when his back is turned; with luck, he won't notice and you can quickly grab the key. If you use invisibility you can pickpocket people while standing right in front of them.
I've never tried to do that much infiltration in the goblin fort. I just figured the guards would go hostile if you tried to enter any locked rooms, so you'd end up having to kill them anyway. If not, then yes, pickpocketing would be the way to go if you've got the skill for it.
I grew impatient waiting for a workaround and started a new game. When I reached the cook outside the king's door scenario, it worked as advertised. My only concern is this happening when I am 90% or more through the game. I would still like to know how the games are saved; in the games I am familiar with there is a "saved games" file or series of files that can be sequestered while reinstalling a game should it be necessary or deleting if corrupted. One thing this has taught me is to save a game whenever I enter a new scenario and to use the "quick save" often.
