Hello,

i know it's a long text, but I assume Arx Fatalis players are patient anyway :P :P.

There's quite a lot I don't quite understand or having Problems with... Here are the most important things:

The Casting Skill
It's said that it's supposed to unlock higher Level Spells, but I could use almost all spells from my spellbook from the very beginning (with less than 20 points in casting)... Is that normal? I just can't dispel high-level Barriers or summon demons etc, but I could cast the firewall from the very beginning (after i found the rune ofc), as a warrior-type...

The Ylsides
Right now I am at the point where I just got Zohark and Krahoz and am supposed to destroy the Meteor, so I just encounted the first Ylsid... Apparently the Game ends there and Akbaa wins, right? No? Well the Ylsides are unbeatable to me... It doesn't matter what I do...

In my last try I heightened my Armor and speed, while weakining his armor and poisining him, I threw everything I had at him (which means he blocked 4/5 attacks), used up all 10 Life Potions, and then I died. I read that I should use the harm spell, but I die even faster then. He doesn't even go down when I flee to the Tavern when I'm near-death, then return fully recovered...

If there isn't some kind of trick I am supposed to do, then this is probably the point where I'm just putting this game aside and mark it as broken, never to be touched again... Don't get me wrong, I love most parts of this game, but this makes me sooo angry grrr. The thought that it isn't a boss-fight, but they are more or less regular enemies from now on does NOT help at all :(.

Merchants/Items
Any chance that the merchans restock their inventory or that I find more traders near-end the game? For example I darkened my game and like to run around with torches, but I bought all of them and I rarely find them... And the Vision spell makes that annoying sound (and kills immersion a bit).
Also I am extremely disappointed that I can't buy better armor or weapons than those, that I bought quite early in the game (you find some stuff, but what I found are just the same things with some magic on it...)

- My Performance in the Menus is extremely low (the unofficial patch helped a bit) and all the Text flickers... I just watched a german let's play where everything is fine. Any Chance I could fix it? At least the flickering (or did the patch do that, Im not sure right now)?

- Also, is there a way to play with 1920x1080 without having a super-tiny HUD?

- And finally, there's no way to use AA other than the game's built-in one, right?

HERE's a screen from my Character (it's the same as the pictures attached), maybe I completely messed up the skilling?

System Specs
Win 7 64Bit
Nvidia GTX 560 Ti

Game Version
1.21 + 0.03 AFF

Any help appreciated, I wouldn't want to leave this game unfinished :(.
Thanks in advance!

Many spells can be cast at any level but will vary in strength (more powerful fireballs etc.); later on you'll get access to more spells you can't cast without the proper skill.

You're not really meant to be fighting Ylsides at this point. You should re-enter the temple through the entrance in the goblin prison. This will take you past most opposition. If this entrance doesn't work for some reason (such as if you didn't leave that way the first time) you'll have to work out some other solution such as using invisibility.

You won't have to actually fight the Ylsides until later on. By that point you will have much better equipment and (hopefully) better skills. Mage builds are the best (with high magic skill you can obliterate an Ylside with two or three fireballs) but since you've already focussed on a combat build for most of the levels you'll need to work out a different solution. You'll find some suggestions in this thread.

I'm not sure whether things like torches are restocked. By now you should have come across the rebels' trader, and possibly also the traders on level 5.

As for equipment you're approaching a point where you can get your hands on some gear that's not just standard stuff with enchantments.

Arx Fatalis doesn't play nicely with newer Nvidia cards like yours. I'd suggest trying Arx Libertatis. To continue from your existing saves you'll need to put them where Arx Libertatis expects them to be:

C:\Users\<you>\Saved Games\Arx Libertatis

Arx Libertatis has improved resolution scaling which will probably fix this.

You can also force antialiasing from your video card's settings program. You'll need to switch it into advanced mode to access these settings.
Thanks a lot :). This cleared things up!

Oh, okay. I will try to re-find it. I used the entrance in the tavern, as said in a walkthrough that I read (because I totally forgot where the temple actually was :P).

Hmm I have to check the rebels again I think, maybe I missed it. And yeah the twin traders were killed by Goblins, because I annihilated both Clans down there ;).

And I'll definitely try Arx Libertatis!

Thanks a lot again :).

-edit-
One more thing, though.(nevermind, i made a new thread)
