I have never been able to do things like add water to a flask, or cook rat ribs, things like that. I understand that if you double left click on an item inyour inventory the cursor changes to a circle with a triangle in it. Then you just click on what you want to merge with, like fire for rat ribs, and that should do it. I can't get it to work. Now I am in the snake temple and I have to combine the two golden snake idols and put them in the bowl. It will not combine them and now I can't continue the game! Please help.

You don't need to combine the snake idols. Just drop one of them in.

Cooking an item doesn't involve combining either. Simply drop the item onto the fire.

Am Shaegar is picky about where he gets his water from. There are wooden tubs filled with water in various places. Combine an empty bottle with one of these.

When combining in the inventory, applicable target items will be highlighted with a throbbing white light; non-highlighted items can't be used as combination targets. When combining in the world, you can only combine if the target can be targeted normally (i.e. has a name appear when you point to it)--this is why using ribs on a fire or a bottle on a body of water won't work.
