Do runic cheats (where you draw secret runes on screen like when casting spells) work with this new version of the game?
I have tried but no luck.

Cheats? In Arx Fatalis?

I tried the cheats for hours.. I've seen videos of them on Youtube. I can't get them to work. My drawing skills really blow just using pencil and paper, much less trying to draw that kind of stuff with a mouse.. I can't even get spells to work most of the time.

Find a quiet place, and practice, you can even store completed spells for later use. Most of all, practice, practice and practice. Anyway, if you can't draw the runes, how are you able to move the camera?

It's sometimes really assish about how you move the mouse. If you wait just a little too long it cancels it, and if your angle is just a slight bit off in certain directions it doesn't work or gives you the wrong rune. Pain in the ass really. Wish I had a touch screen for it.

I tried them for about 4 hours solid.. I could get some of the regular game runes to work, but none of the cheats.. I gave up after I got a bad hand cramp.
The worst part of it is, you can make the same identical movement for a rune 10 times, and only have it successfully acknowledge it 4 times.

so has someone finally been able to use the cheat spells with the letter runes?
For example MAX for GOD-mode or 3xstairs for no clipping?
I myself tried for lenghts of time and have no issues at all when casting other spells.
Maybe they only work on the Xbox?

I have a feeling that cheats are disabled in 1.19. Cheats do work in 1.17 as far as I know, though.

I finally succeeded in using those rune cheat spells in version 1.19.
All the cheats mentioned on the web can be activated.
However, the "rune-draw-interface" is quiet sensible so you need to be very precise when drawing the runes.
A good way to start practicing is to begin with the stairs rune x 3 to activate the "no clipping" cheat (when activated you can even use page up & page down to move vertically, which is not possible using the Levitate spell).

This is the only cheat that can be deactivated so it's better to save before trying the other ones.

I only want to use the Ultima underworld Graphics cheat... thats my goal... i loved that series!

I found out later on that the only way to activate cheats was by doing the "boning the chair" trick at the beginning. Once you've done that then you'll h ave cheats enabled for the remainder of the game.

I remember using trainers to help boost my stats in previous versions of e game. However those games also tended to crash a helluva lot! So far I am enjoying a 'crash free' (fingers crossed) Arx, but I am REALLY missing being able to cheat like I used to.
Call me a cheater - big deal. I liked it. :)
The game is still great to play without the cheats, but I like feeling like some super-duper-megapowered-schizophrenic hero!

From my experience the best way to be outrageously overpowered in Arx is to create a mage-thief hybrid; organise your skills and attributes so that you start with 51 Stealth (so you can pickpocket right from the start to get the maximum loot early on) then put everything else into magic skills (for epic mage powers) and object knowledge (for alchemy). Combat skills are of little significance once you can cast Fireball on demand, and you can find all of the necessary runes within the goblin prison if you look carefully (or follow a guide).
At higher levels of magic training a couple of fireballs will let you take down the mightiest enemies in the game from afar (they can quickly kill even the best fighter builds if engaged at close range), and the early mastery of pickpocketing means that money is never an issue as you can systematically rob everything of value from every friendly being you come across. Stealing normally requires you to be behind your victim, but with your l33t magicking skillz you can cast Invisibility and then rob your victim while standing in front of him. Your high object knowledge means you can pick almost any lock as well as brewing all the potions you could ever need.

Cheats are totally *not* working in 1.21. Apparently when they created the patch (which is greatly appreciated) they decided to be tough guys and drop the cheat runes (which I deeply resent). I'm playing a warrior type with almost 40 pts of armor and the Ysildes in Arx shrug off double Harm and a poisoned two handed sword. It's freaking ridiculous. To the Arkane guy who made this decision I hope you're proud of yourself. You beat me. I'm quitting the game that I was absolutely loving.

I could never get the damn cheats to work.

All I ever wanted was to see the game with Ultima Underworld graphics. Not even a screenshot on the web, apparently.
