Bought it recently, gave it some hours, wrote a pretty negative 3-star review about cars having no friction or weight, they just slide around with no feeling of actually touching the ground.
No sounds or other sort of response when you start sliding either, adding to the floating-in-air-feeling, and it sort of never stops - until you hit a tree/stone or something else!

Thought about giving up, but for some reason I played some more, started career and won the first couple of rallys after a while on normal difficulty (keyboard player).

Now I tried "The Zetto" from group 3, just to see if controls get even worse higher up, but it was way better instead!
It feels like a different game, way better feeling overall.
Anyone else experienced the same?
Is it just the first cars that are horrible, and everything just gets better after that?
as the car unlocks and career progress follow a timeline through the history (and pseudo history) of a segment of rally racing, it's true the technology of the cars improves over time. as technology improved, cars gained more power, more grip, more aerodynamic devices, and more gears. with the increase in speed however, they also became more frantic to drive.

while horrible may be a strong word to describe the group 2 cars, it's true they would have more mass, less power, and worse brakes than later cars, but it's also true your driving skills will improve as you progress through the classes, so upon returning to group 2 later, you may find them a more enjoyable relaxing drive than say, group s.

group 2 cars are more slide more easily, but they're also more manageable given their lower speed.
happy to hear you stuck with it though, as it sounds like you found something more to taste.
each of the cars in art of rally drive differently, so if you're not getting along with one, change it up. there's quite a variety even within a particular class. have fun! :)

Thanks for answer!

Yeah I'm getting some entertainment for my money so shouldn't complain too much, and sadly there aren't really any other rally games on GOG :/
But would have liked this much better if the cars had more grip/friction!
Maybe there should have been a slider for grip instead of stability assist?!

this would be fine, if there weren't global cross-platform online leaderboards for stage times.

if grip_slider = default_value upload_time_to_leaderboard()
else display_message("Online leaderboard participation not available due to non-standard grip settings.")
