I am having various sound problems with Cold War Assault, both in hardware and software mode, that I cannot get rid of. I wanted to ask around whether anyone else has been experiencing these. Although it seems strange to me, I have not found any other mention of similar problems anywhere so far.

One thing I have in both software and hardware mode is unusually loud engine sound. When inside a moving vehicle, the engine is so loud that it is practically impossible to hear any dialogue that goes on during the drive. The engine sound also doesn't fade out like it used to in earlier versions (as I confirmed with my copy of the original OFP, versions 1.00-1.46).

Also in both modes (although it is hard to hear due to the loud engine noise--however, it happens also in earlier OFP versions where it's easy to hear): some voice samples played while in a moving vehicle sound very choppy. It is not all samples, but always the same ones. This recording is from the helicopter ride at the beginning of the first mission "Flashpoint":

You can hear that Fowley and Kozlowski sound choppy, but the Sergeant sounds fine. That is the same every time. I noticed that the samples play fine when I speed up the game to factor 2.0, but of course that's not an acceptable workaround (and the samples will play on top of each other due to the timing).

In hardware mode (I have an Asus Xonar D2X audio card with latest drivers, and I activate its "GX" mode to be able to choose hardware audio acceleration) there is another bug: the timing with radio speech segments seems to be off, they stop playing about half a second too early each. This makes for very weird-sounding radio chatter, especially for short words. I have made another recording, since it's difficult to describe:

For software mode, I also tried switching to the on-board Realtek HD audio chip instead of the Xonar card, but the issues remained exactly the same. (I am using Win7 Pro 64-bit and DirectX 11)

I would be very grateful for any pointers, especially on the issue of too loud engine noise. I can live with a couple of choppy voice samples every now and then, and software mode is fine to prevent the radio dialogue problem. But the engine volume makes the game practically unplayable. If I don't want the sound to become painfully loud whenever I get into a vehicle, I have to have it turned down so much that it's hard to hear anything else. I find it hard to believe that I'm the only one with this problem, since all indications are that this is a bug in the game itself: it doesn't happen in earlier versions, it happens in software and hardware audio mode, and it happens on different systems and sound cards.
