Where are the savegames stored? Any suggestions?

In the folder DAT\SAVE
There are some autosaved files, the regular savegame files are called SAVE0.DES, SAVE1.DES, ... They are plain text files, you can open them with a texteditor.
There's also an old program to edit the game files (in german):
