I've just started playing again after taking a short break from Arcanum and I've found that I'm no longer able to set multiple waypoints in the map menu. I can set one, hit go and it works, but more than that and my party just stands there. I installed the widescreen mod and the unofficial patch, but I had both installed before taking a break and everything worked fine. The only thing I've done since that I can think may have had an effect was run a defrag, but that's never caused any problems for me before.
It's really annoying because I used that feature A LOT. I also don't want to reinstall as this is the 3rd game I've had to start after the patch/mod I installed rendered my previous saves useless and I really like my current character.

Several ppl have suggested - "When you are wearing the Chapeau of Magnetic Inversion, your character will not follow the path set by waypoints on the town maps. More specifically, pc will not move at all when you push the red button if you have placed more than one waypoint. If you place one and only one waypoint, the pc will move."
If you are wearing the Chapeau of Magnetic Inversion, take it off and give it a try . . .=)

It actually makes sense, if you think about it...
You could argue that the waypoint system is basically a GPS device, but such technology has not yet been invented. Therefore, referring to the dichotomous nature of the Arcanum world, the waypoint system must be Magick. Since the Chapeau of Magnetic Inversion is a technological device, its workings and underpinnings in the technological realm disrupt the magickal components of the aforementioned Waypoint System.
As to why only the Chapeau of Magnetic Inversion disrupts navigation where as other technological devices do not, that is a debate best left to the scholars.

I agree, unfortunately, I don't have the Chapeau of Magnetic Inversion so I can't test the statement. I was hoping lolbacon would respond with a confirmation. . . .=)

I don't know why, but the Chapeau of Magnetic Inversion theory seems correct. Me neither can use several waypoints in citys when wearing it. Strange :)

Weird. I just reequipped it I can still travel unhindered. I also had it equipped for a while before and it didn't cause any problems. Unequipping it fixed the issue, but I'm guessing it's a bug rather than a design decision, though Explodotron's explanation is rather compelling.

Although I found several threads where this occurred, this thread is the only one which has confirmations that it is causing the problem.
I like the Magic/Tech scenario as well but . . . since you re-equipped and the problem was not immediately reoccurring . . . I will go with a "bug" as well . . .=)

The Chapeau of Magnetic Inversion bug isn't constant though in my experience. When I first tried to wear it it wouldn't let me use the Map Markers, but since then I forgot about it, put it back on and it had been working fine until yesterday.
