Naa it will help you out on the short run, Im guessing you are playing tech side of the game, the game is so much harder on tech people later. Althoug I have played played the magic side only and tried out the tech side then got frustrated by constant deaths all I have to say is good luck because you will need it

After googling a bit, I have determined that the fortifier does indeed work in bizarre fashion. I guess it gives a small buff but then has severe withdrawal effects, and those withdrawal effects will cause any followers you have to turn hostile. So you can only safely use it on yourself, and it's probably not worth it.
