Everytime I play this game from the begining (which is pretty often) I try to do things pretty differently. And more often than not I see something I've never seen before. Without being to heavy with the spoilers, whats been some of your most fun/random bits that you've stumbled upon in the wonderful world of arcanum?
It can be anything, a glitch / easter egg or just one of the little nuggets of brilliance put in for us to find.
For me, one of the best was the first time you summon the most mighty of beasts to do your bidding ... a vorpal bunny! then spending half the day trying to find your monty python: quest for the holy grail DVD :D
I had lots and lots and lots of fun when I first played this game. I plan on buying it again through GOG as soon as I play through Warcraft III and justify its purchase.
Here are some of my all time best memories...
*Yar, here be SPOILERS*
-Limitless leveling options (aka Custom Classes)
-Red Angels of Death rising up and smiting people.
-I had to get rid of some meddlesome humans that decided to camp out in a very holy elven woodland. Any violence, however, would incur that wrath of the forest spirits and kill the offender(s). Talking was not an option, as a Half-Orc Axe Master (see above) doesn't talk too good too dem humie gits. So I goad them into attacking me. Problem was that I was a Dodge Master as well and it took them about 20 rounds to land a hit on me. SO i stood there, dodging, until one of them scratched me. Cue Red Angels of Death (see above).
-Critical Hits leaving scars and causing Beauty penalties.
-Forgetting Virgil on the island and not being able to go back to collect his healing ass.
-Finding Zapruder's Camera in the zeppelin wreckage.
-The game manual (still use it as a bathroom reader).
-The Soundtrack and the fact that I am *this* close to convincing my fiance to use it as wedding music.
I could gush endlessly about this game. This game actually got me to go back and play Fallout. Kind of backwards, I know. It introduced me to steampunk and I have not looked back. Thank you GOG for this.
I was surprised by the quarrel between Bates and Appleby, nice satire.

I have never played through Arcanum, and just recently bought it off of here. I remember seeing it in shelves and thinking "Hm, I'd like to try that one" but I never got to. And I believe my two words for it is: Kick and Ass.
My first noted moment of joyful glee was the mix of fantasy elements with Victorian speech like out of Sherlock Holmes or an Oscar Wilde novel. With spells. And elves. And revolvers!
Not to mention the ageless classic joke; "This is The Boil, sir. You will never find more wretched hive of scum and villainy"

I really enjoy the classic setting with a mix of the Victorian and steam age with a bit of the wild west and fantasy elements.
It's the first time I play it.
I'm at a stage where I just returned to Tarrant from the Black Mountain clan's home.
With exception of the Orc Factory/Donn Throgg quest and The Boil I did all Tarant quests.
I've tried waiting till the next morning for over 2 weeks ingame time to get the Orc Factory quest, but no luck so far.
In Tarant I like the way some of your doings result in newspaper headlines.
Tip for others new to the game:
Go to areas like the dragon's lair and the Tarant open and closed sewers if your party is strong enough. In that stage of the game it's a good way to level up.
yix when you end up whit hexed dager left gives poisen damage fire golems and ore golems.
remember to take alot of use less weppons and amor when
now there are fire glomes there.
Half-orc woman quest madam lill 300 buks only faited when having sex he got unike taste.
And rember to ask bessie after. ;p
Not been so much around got to Gorag pass don't go util you got atleast 10 lvl above beast
heer got stuck whit char here whit no weapons left. got not back it was a ore golem there to.

I still have it too! I've got a whole shelf of classic pc rpg manuals. I constantly have to stop my wife from getting rid of them! She doesn't understand how cool it is to still have the manual for Daggerfall in one's collection! (the Daggerfall disc is stamped with "Comp US special edition sword included". )
Aaaaah yes...
Back then, when manuals where actually helpful and contained more than a short warning of epilepsia and the useless "Insert Disk and follow Setup" Instructions.
I am myself a prod collector of maps, that where shipped with games.
IIRC wasn't there a recipe in the back of the arcanum manual? like for bread or a cake or summin....
anyone ever tried to cook it? :)

Halfling Recipe
----------------------
The following is excerpted from "The Cookhill Family Recipe Book" lately published by Fredwise Cookhill, owner and proprietor of the famous Three Loaves Public House & Inn in Ashbury. Used with permission of the author.
GRANDMA COOKHILL'S THREE BOWL BREAD
In a large bowl, blend one-third of a cup of softened butter and two-thirds of a cup of sugar until creamy and light. When this is done, add a fresh hen's egg and beat the mixture a bit more to blend.
In a second bowl, sift one and three-quarters cup of flour together with one and one-half teaspoons of baking powder, one-quarter of a teaspoon of baking-soda, and a teaspoon of Cumbrian cinnamon.
In a third bowl, mash three very ripe banana-fruit, preferably of the sweeter Cattanese variety.
Add one-third of the flour mixture to the butter bowl, and beat the two together; then add one-third of the mashed bananas and beat again. Continue adding both mixtures by thirds to the large bowl until all the flour, butter-and-eggs, and banana-fruit are thoroughly blended. Then, if you wish, you may add a half-cup of shelled walnuts for flavor. Spread the batter into a well-greased 4" x 8" pan and bake for one hour at a temperature of 350 degrees.
The resulting bread is very healthful and tasty and can be served as an addition to the mid-morning meal. It also makes a pleasant snack in a picnic basket, and is wholly appropriate fare to offer elven visitors.

Heh - banana bread isn't that complicated. About 10-15 minutes of prep and around one hour of baking give you a couple days of tasty bliss. nom nom nom

I will admit I just snatched a random pic from the web, but I have made banana bread before. Warm, fresh banana bread with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream on top... kind of makes me wish there was a culinary tech tree in the game.
