This is a thread for noting all the odd little quirks the developers included, that affect only selected races or race-gender combinations.

I'm not talking about the obvious ones (dwarves suck at magic, half-ogres can never find anything good to wear, and women have to sleep their way into the gentleman's club). There are more subtle ones, and that's what this thread is for.

And if you have any counterexamples (such as that only small [or magically-shrunken] PCs can enter the Thieves Cave) drop those in here as well.

SPOILERS MAY ABOUND. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

To start things off: Gnomes apparently cannot get either Chukka or Thorvald as a follower. Gilbert Bates never makes the offer, and Thorvald carries a grudge. (You simply never get the "Are you a dwarf or a gnome?" dialog option.)

Kind of curious as to whether either or both of these hold true for halflings as well. Anyone else have an example of hidden racism to share?
hmm hidden? Thats a toughie

One I do like is as an elf when speaking to the ghost of poor dead Brehgo he tells you about how he was killed by Arbalah the PC can tell him something like, "Humans are brutal creatures, Im not surprised" or a "You got what was coming to you" basically

then theres the obvious ones ofcourse when you have a low initial reaction like "What do you want Sharp Ear" and so on
The books in the Tarant library contain a goldmine of information on the subject of half-orcs and their place in society. There's a hell of a lot of detail in there for something that most players won't even bother reading (especially "Treatise on the Ramifications of Intolerance on those of a Half-Orcish Nature", it's actually quite touching). Then, of course, you can try talking to the half-orc workers at one of the factories.

Yeah actually one of the books is titled "The Orcish Question" which is a direct reference to The Jewish Question, about how to rid Europe of those filthy, godforsaken non-gentiles etc.

As an elf, when you go to the tombmaker for the dead woman of the zepplin crash, he is a dwarf so he insults you. One of the dialogue option responses is "Prepare to meet your gods, fool!" or something like that.

As a dwarf, Raven in Qintarra is really insulting, and you can actually fight her for it, which makes all of Qintarra fight you, which means you can basically start a war with the elven homeland and wipe them out for their racism.
It's amazing to think that not only was Arcanum doing dark fantasy long before it was cool, but Troika also realised that for it to have any effect, it has to be more a little more subtle than simply having most NPCs acting like Klansmen (looking at you, Dragon Age: Origins).
Great stuff so far; keep 'em coming!

Amen to that.
