Does the ring of influence still give you +3persuasion and haggle even if you don't meet the cha requirement for such an increasing level of those skills? I plan to take only child as a background which sets penalty to cha, hence my curiosity.

From what I've read elsewhere, those bonuses don't seem to be a full +3 cp investment worth of increase to those two skills. I'm not 100% on what the bonus ends up actually being but that's what I've gathered. Maybe someone else could shed more light on that.

That being said, that ring is worth it just for the stats it provides whether you get the full benefit from increased skill or not.

The short answer to your question is: no, not right away.

Those three ranks will be there, but unavailable to your PC until such time as you put enough points into CH to uncover them. For each new level, you'll need a CH of 6, 9, and 12 (and 15 if you've already invested a point in CH yourself); with that background, 16 is as high as you can go anyway. The ring itself provides a +3 CH bonus (as well as +3 to BE) but it doesn't increase your maximum beyond racial or background limits.

This works the same, btw, with the other stats as well. If you wear a DX-boosting item (or cast Agility of Fire) and invest heavily in Melee and Dodge, those extra ranks will disappear when your bonus DX does, only to reappear the next time you wear that item or cast that spell. Similarly, half-ogre techies get around their IN limitations by drinking potions of IN when they're ready to invest points in the upper levels of a tech college, and again when they want to craft those items.

Skills actually range numerically from 0 to 20. Each point you invest in a skill increases it by 4.

While technically true, it's still probably easier to visualize each skill in ranks and fractions of a rank.

I played an elf battle mage, female. This was the only race that, combined with ran away with the circus, would allow me to max str and dex, and get 18 wis to get lvl5 spells. No other possible combo due to wis loss. I mastered melee and dodge, had expert in persuasion 3 ranks, which is enough, had int 12 for buffs, 18 wis ofc, cha and bea at 12 I think, more then enough,
Ultra battle mage, althouh I focused on battle first, and advanced magic later, finished the game as level 58 or something, with cap remover.
A few blessings but not th2 final one. Mastered the healing school, the first which gets you teleportation, and the lastnwhich gives you tempus fugit.
Tempus fugit + haste, I killed the end boss without him being able to scratch me, alone without a party.
The story is beyond epic. Gonna reply it soon. With virgil and that dwarv on that island. I lost him this time when I got back to the black mountain clan haha. I had that ogre with me from mister baites. Most annoying npc ever. Ever suspicious to me.

Those would be the schools of White Necromancy, Conveyance, and Temporal, respectively.

Glad you enjoyed the game. You can play a completely different kind of character next time. You haven't even experienced the Technology side of things.

Nah, I am a magic guy. Tech is nothing for me so I will reply with a different magick path, exluding healing this time as ifs utterly useless tbh. Virgil is enough for the healing. The balance between magick and tech is quite interesting. When my magick aptitude became very high, tech showkeepers wouldnt trade with me. So I killed them ffor the money haha.
I am tempted to try out summoning or something, lets see.
And I am going to play at hard as the game becomes very easy after level 30 onwards.

The game will always be easy for a mage. If you want more of a challenge, play a gunman.

Or play as a magical Dwarf, complete with that huge spellcasting penalty. Then recruit Jormund as a follower, so that there'll be two of you!

Or forego magic completely, and play as either a thief or a half-ogre idiot.
