Just finished this great game by beating the crap out of Kerghan.I was kinda sad I couldn't talk my way out of this battle,so i searched on the Internets a possible solution.
On Gamebanshee it is written that you can convince Kerghan that he is wrong and then use the Vendrigoth device on him.To do that,you have to first tell Kerghan that he may be right,and then whisper to Arronax that you have a plan.
Long story short,the whisper option doesn't appear in my dialogue.
What are his requirements?

It's absolutley possible. Unfortunatley you'll have to fight him anyway due to a bug.
Did you try to leave Arronax outside?

You may need the unofficial Drog Black Tooth patch to get it all to work properly, though.

Basically you need Charisma of 20, full persuasion, leave your followers outside, convince him, AND use the Vendigroth device, from what I'm reading here.

"I successfully convinced Kerghan he needed to change his ways, but I had to fight him anyway. He said I should use the Vendigroth device on him. But he didn't have his shield up, so it did nothing. Then my guys attacked him. No cool ending."

"If you plan to persuade Kerghan to drop his evil plans, leave your followers outside his room. If you don't, they attack as soon as the dialog ends. I had Kerghan shrining into his protective sphere already, but just as I was about to use the Vendigroth device on him, Dog decided to bite the sphere. Kerghan took offense and popped out of the sphere in his overpowered dragon shape and broke half of my Gnomish chainmail in one blow. Not that it helped him any, my party was strong enough to dispatch Kerghan almost without my own help."

You don't need to speak with Arronax.

That forum helped.
My character had 15 CH and was ranked 4 in persuasion.
He didn't meet the requirements.
