So far I've avoided trying to play a gunslinger because I've read so many descriptions of guns in Arcanum as under-powered, broken etc. Nevertheless, I finally tried it out last night. I went for a human with the Mad Doctor background for a bit of added Intelligence and Perception. I put my initial points into perception. I definitely found levels 1-3 a challenge compared to a magic or melee character. But I got to level 6 pretty quickly from doing a few quests, put enough points into gunsmithing to make a Fine Pistol or whatever the second tier weapon is called, put some more into Perception, and trained up to expert in Guns. Now I seem to hit things almost all of the time, even from a reasonable distance. It still takes a bit longer to kill stuff, and having to buy/make bullets might get annoying, but I'm generally killing ailing wolves in one shot, and I haven't had real trouble yet. I'd be interested to continue with this character, but I'm wondering if people have any experience of having gone through the whole game with a gunslinger and found some really hard obstacles for such a build further down the road. Also, just out of interest, what is the ultimate weapon in Arcanum for a gun use?
