Here're two probably simple questions for which I haven't yet found the answers by myself...
When I find/buy a new schematic...
-how do I know what level do I need in a specific school of technology? And
-do I need anything other than the school it belongs to?
For example, I've bought the schematics for the Acid Gun. It requires the Repeater Rifle and Corrosive Acid. The latter I managed to buy from an inventor, thus I didn't have to pick Chemistry for it. But does it mean I *have to* have Chemistry, along with Gun Smithy, to make the gun? And how do I know what level I have to be in either of them?

Hi !
First of all, I am not much of a Crafter in Arcanum and so i might be wrong about this, but according to a guide, you need Gun Smithy 40 and Chemistry 70 for the Acid Gun.
I haven't crafted a single thing in Arcanum, so I don't know if you can see the Skill needed, but I am pretty sure it is somewhere in the crafting window, or at least if you try to make the item and fail, you should get a message of some kind.
Alternatively you can look up the items in this guide:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/914155/30103
According to the author it is as good as spoilerfree and provides an overview over the different Craftmanships and what ingredients and skills are needed.
As for the different skills: As far as i know it is possible to aquire tech manuals which temporarily raise the level in the specific skill by the amount of int you have multiplied with the count of manual, so if it is not too high, you might raise your skills using that.
e.g.
INT: 20, 2x Chemistry Manual = +40 Skills.
These manuals can be "aquired" "someplace". I don't want to spoiler you, but you might have run across them already.
hope that helps

To make a "found schematic" you actually need to have two separate things: the ingredients to make the new item, and the appropriate skills. If you look at the schematic display you will see that above the each picture of a required ingredient there is a small symbol and a number. The symbol indicates which skill (I think it is always the skill related to that ingredient) and the number the level of skill. Whether you can make the ingredient in question is not actually important - if you can get it some other way that's fine. You get approximately ten points of skill per level in that skill.
For the acid gun you mention you actually require level 6 in chemistry and level 4 in gun smithy, which happen to be sufficient to make the ingredients. For an Automaton you need Mechanics level 7 but only Smithy level 2 - you can't get the Elite Platemail ingredient any way but make it (that I'm aware of), but the skill to make it isn't actually required for the Automaton.
Lastly some found schematics only require a single skill. For instance the Flow Disruptor shield only requires level 6 electrical, and all the ingredients are available from shops.

I got most of my schematic knowledge and [url=http://troika.wikia.com/wiki/Found_schematics]here . . .=)
And one goldwighted tip: You don't need to have high levels(each level give about 10 points in specializion and this points are writen near ingredients) 'cause you can rise it "artificialy". There is a man, in tarants university Near to the left of Bates mansion) who sells technical manuals for every science discipline.
If you buy it - and have it in your inv. - it will boost your discipline. The bonus is cumulative - more books, more points. And it depends on INT - higher INT - higher bonus.
So, you are restricted only by size of your inv and money you can spand on it (its about 500 -1000 gold, i'm not sure)
Thank you for your responses!
Yes, I've already noticed the numbers next to the components, but I couldn't figure it out what they meant. So, you say 1 point in a disciple ~= 10 points? That's useful to know.
I'm marking Horza66's post as solution because that's what I was unaware of. But I'm giving +rep to everyone who posted.

Thank you, I have been to Tarant numerous times, but didn't really bother with the Uni; I'll be sure to check out the prof with the manuals.
