I swiped it with a Fate Point and it seems terrible based only on the stats. I've heard people say it is amazing but I just don't see it.

The Enchanted Gown (aka the "Sunday Best" dress) gives others a +20 reaction bonus toward you, equivalent to a +4 boost to your Beauty. This lowers sale prices from merchants, allowing you to buy things more cheaply.

The Purity of Water spell accomplishes the same thing, as does the Elegant Dress, along with the Smoking Jacket for men.

TL;DR: it's good to have, but not worth burning a Fate point on.
Thanks. See, I didn't see anything about improved reaction in the listed stats and I already had the fancy +20 reaction dress from starting the game. I was expecting something awesome the way I've heard people gush over it. XD
With Barter Mastery you can simply buy it. It's not even that expensive.

IIRC, with Pickpocket Mastery you can steal it, which is even funnier. Pickpocket Mastery also has the funniest quest in the game.

Just FYI.
Thanks. My main question was... what was all the hype about. XD I'm actually working on Haggling with this character. Willpower is a big thing for magic and also governs haggling so they sort of went hand in hand.

I was unfamiliar with this item so I just googled it. I found a page that lists the Enchanted Gown and the "Sunday Best" dress as being two different items with different stats. Is that true? Or are they the same?

(Sorry for not giving more info, I'm trying to avoid overt spoilers about the stats... I can elaborate if asked)

EDIT: I decided to proceed with spoilers....

If the site I found is correct, then the Enchanted Gown has a +10 noise penalty (NP). Confusingly, positive NP means it makes you QUIETER (for example, plate armors often have NP of -80 or so, they're super loud). So that makes the Enchanted Gown really useful for sneaking around. With high magical aptitude, you will also get up to +30 fire resistance, which is nice. It's no good for blocking direct damage, though.

The "Sunday Best" dress is the one with the reaction modifier. Enchanted Gown doesn't have that, but I'm guessing everyone was gushing about it because of how helpful it is when prowling. It's the only item I've ever seen (OK, technically I've never seen it, just looked at it online!) that actually improves your noise penalty.
