You will want willpower for spells, intelligence for maintaining spells and more dialogue options, charisma for persuade (obviously) and lots of followers (unless you don't care about them).
If you want an easy time stick your first five points in: Harm, the first Conveyance spell (which I forget what it is, but you might as well push to get teleport as fast as possible), point in charisma, point in willpower, point intelligence.
Then chose whatever background you want, I don't remember specific backgrounds particularly well, really whatever suits you and your roleplaying needs.
Then play: harm will make fighting easy (if you want to not fight but let your followers do all the fighting maybe go summoning college).
