Hi, wondering if anyone can help me with troubleshooting. I'm having some difficulties with Arcanum on Windows 10. There might be other issues I haven't found (from not playing far enough) but so far I've discovered two.

1) The game can't save. Any attempt at saving the game results in a "save game corrupted" error.

2) Voice sounds and music don't play. Sound effects still work, sound settings are all normal, but there's no music and Virgil's voice lines in the beginning just don't play as intended. I assume this might apply to other voice lines, I just haven't played far enough to see (because of issue 1.)

Issue 1 is obviously the main thing I'm trying to solve so that the game is playable.

Things I've tried;

- Uninstalling and reinstalling the game to different locations & harddrives.
- Disabling firewall, running as administrator.
- Installing the unofficial patch.

I'm stumped. Any advice or speculation is welcome.

The Unofficial Patch website mentions that the High Resolution Patch of the UAP is supposed to improve Win 10 compability. Did you try it?

Otherwise I really cannot think of anything, never encountered your issues.

Yeah unfortunately the UAP makes no difference. But thank you for the suggestion.

Most things you tried are something I would have suggested, just looked at the game in my library. Seems like there was an update to the installer in 11/2024, are you using the latest offline installer?

In case you are using galaxy, think I read somewhere you can choose to install different versions as in older gog versions but I am not familiar with it. Only using offline installers here.

Did you try any compability mode, like Win 7? I suppose you did run the installer as an admin as well?

Do you have different graphic cards you could try, like an intel onboard chip? Just grasping for straws here...
I can't think of anything that might help with this specific issue as I've never encountered it, but here are a couple more things to try that might cause issues:
1) The GOG preservation program update in November '24 mentions they added ddrawcompat for better compatibility on modern systems. I am assuming this is narzoul's project on github. You might try deleting this and running the game as vanilla as possible without the ddrawcompat or without it and then the unofficial patch.

2)You could try a different ddraw compatibility wrapper to see if that works. I recommend FunkyFr3sh's CNC-DDRAW on github. The compatibility list specifically mentions this game.

3)The PCgamingwiki entry for the game mentions some versions of the unofficial patch have issues and recommends certain older versions. You could try that.

4)I had issues with this game crashing and it was specifically caused by Rivetuner statistics server. But that was a crash to desktop on launch issue, not a savegame issue. Still, it might be worth turning off anything like that if you have an Nvidia card with an OSD enabled.

These are more process of elimination suggestions . . .
