Hi !
I have got a save-game where i am unable to loot any corpse or chest.
When i click on a chest or a corpse, and i am sure that there is something to loot,
just nothing happens. I don't even get the "There is nothing so loot here" message when you click on an empty corpse. Also i am unable to pickpocket someone. There again nothing happens, when i click on the pick-pocket symbol and then on a person (e.g. a shopkeeper).
When i start a new game, everything seems to be working the right way again.
Can someone please help me ? I already played that save a few hours and i wouldn't like to start over again.
I am playing this game gog.com vanilla, without additional mods, patches, hacking, etc...
And i already have tried reinstalling the game.

I had the looting problem also, it happened when I was in Shrouded Hills. I have windows vista installed. So I decided to run as adminstrator, when I went back to load the game all my previous saved games dissappeared. I'm still not sure were they are, not that it matters now my character is level 25.
I did want to thank Stuff for the "no3d/doublebuffer" it cured my fuzzy pointer.

Stuff: After thinking about it, I can't help but wonder if your "looting" bug was a bug common in the vanilla version of Arcanum? One of the many bugs the UAP fixed? Playing the game in a UAP install does not "undo" the problem since the problem still existed when I tried to play it using my install.
Since you installed the UAP . . . it will be interesting to see if the bug reoccurs . . .=)
I agree about the multiple saves . . .=) . . . I accidently killed Virgil early on, having a recent save allowed me to continue without the nagging loss of a very helpful NPC. Especially early in the game when you are not up to speed on exactly how the game is played.
Since you already installed the UAP, the High Res town maps mod is nice as well . .

Glad I could help, you might look at this thread for help in finding your pre-run as admin save files . . . =)
Actually i did install not only the UAP, but also the Texture and Highres Packs.
I have reached and successfully passed the point where the bug occured. It seems like the UAP fixed my problem.
I deem multiple saves in RPGs, especially the Old School Ones, necessary, since they are a lot more complex and difficult. I am not new to RPGs, I have played everything from Fallout 1+2, BG1+2, Temple of Elemental Evil, NWN1+2, Mass Effect1+2, Dragon Age, Drakensang, etc. pp. blabla.
I have never played Arcanum before, mainly because it wasn't available in german when it was in stores and the original version is difficult to run on modern pcs.
I really enjoy playing it and i think it is a great game, a classic without doubt, but hell, it is difficult. Having played "Action-RPGs" lately, mainly Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2, may have soften me up.
It took me quite some time to get in the gameplay, to get a decent character, that actually survives fighting the assassin at the altar in the beginning of the game.
I have quite some practice now, but truth be told, I still die regular.
EDIT: I should stop starting sentences with "I {verb}". Aww, did it again.

So the answer was 'use the UAP'?
<nudge> better mark a suitable post as an answer then :)
Yeah you are right. I'll do it right away.
Well, by fixing I mean, that i had to start over from scratch and the bug didn't occur again.
I don't know the exact time/location the bug was caused, so I am no sure if it really was the UAP.
I hope so.
Looks like this bug isn't dead yet.
I encountered it playing with UAP. The looting screen simply won't come up. The problem seems to be similar to the OP's, so probably corrupt save (because the other saves are unaffected). Any ideas for a possible fix?
