I purchased the game from GoG, installed the UAP and the High Res/Widescreen patch. When I click the shortcut on my desktop it briefly loads then my screen goes black for a second and nothing happens. Help would be appreciated, thanks.

What OS are you on, if vista/win7 have you tried running it as admin or tryed any of the compatibility settings in the shortcuts propertys?
You could also resintall it and see if it runs without any of the extra 3rd party patches.

Go to C:\Program files\GOG.com\Arcanum\HighRes.bat and right-click the HighRes.Bat file. Click "Run as an administrator" on the resulting dialog. Follow the on-screen prompts and uninstall the HR patch. This should fix the start problem.
If you want to try to reinstall the HR Patch, make sure you right-click the HighRes.bat file and run it as an admin when you reinstall.

I reinstalled and it's working fine without the patches. I'm going to try and reinstall them running HighRes.bat as admin.
So it turns out I was entering the wrong resolution =/
