It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

What it says in the subject (for the rest of the error message, see the attached screenshot).

Occurs on Win7 64bit, at least for me.
Tried the usual trouble-shooting (running as admin, compatibility modes, even temporarily turned off DEP), but to no avail.

Some quick web searches for the same or similar error messages seem to suggest that the issue could be solved by running the exe through a glide wrapper?

Edit:

The proposed glide wrapper seems not to be the solution - just installed the latest nglide and tried a few different configurations (DirectX/Vulkan video backends, aspect ratios, screen resolutions, etc) but no luck so far.

Configuring a couple custom _start.exe-specific settings in the Nvidia control panel (for example, limiting to only one GPU in my 2x SLI-setup) also doesn't seem to help with this.

Got past the error message by running _start.exe through DxWnd.
pcgamingwiki.com actually just recommends using it for forcing windowed mode (there's an option for fullscreen as well), but this coincidentally also solved the exception access violation issue, at least for me.
D3DWindower (the program that was used for Kotti's speedrun during AGDQ 2018) can be used to work around the exception access violation too, btw.
The downside here being, that there's no option for fullscreen, at least from what I can tell so far.

The aspect ratio is 4:3 anyway and I doubt there are many 4:3 monitors around :P Also GOG version comes only with D3D executable, Glide wrapper won't help with that, unless we're talking dgVoodoo with it's DirectX wrapping, but that's not Glide wrapper anymore.
