I can't believe gog got Anvil of Dawn this game is so rare the only place I could find it was from a private torrent site now I can get a perfectly working legal copy from GOG. :P

This is indeed great news! I bought a copy off of E-bay a few years ago, plus the illegal file didn't include speech. I am assuming that the GOG version does?, please correct me if I am mistaken.

The torrented version I had did have speech, that's why it was so rare but it's such a pain to set up dos box to run it.

It's a bit static'y though, tested different sound settings in dosboxAnvil.conf which didn't help.

Worked fine for me. You might try upping the blocksize and/or prebuffer settings under [mixer] in the dosbox.conf when you get choppy sound. Don't overdo this though, otherwise the sound will noticeably lag behind the video. If by static'y you meant the sound wasn't very clear sounding, you could check the rate under [mixer] and oplrate under [sblaster]* and up them to 44100 if necessary. But remember back then the samples used in games weren't exactly cd quality.

* i'm just guessing gog did use soundblaster in the games sound config

Just a very slight background static when having a conversation with NPCs, it's not life threatening.

I shall give your instructions a go AFTER I've beaten current dungeon lol, no one to talk to at the moment *sniffle*

*EDIT* Tested different values for blocksize/rates which didn't make a difference. No worries, AoD is still playable & great :D

So happy to see this on here. I'm glad people will have the chance to play it again. Thank you so much for managing to get distribution rights for this gem, GOG team! =)

The blocksize / prebuffer settings are only useful if you get choppy, clipping sound. I didn't knew exactly what you meant by static'y sound, so i just threw it out there. But now i see you just meant bad, lofi sound quality. I guess you'll have to live with it, it's just the way games were back in the day. You'll get used to it after a while. ;-)
Still got the original in my possession. Only played it once so will have to try it again.

Top notch release GOG, now all I ask for is Hammer of the Gods and I will be a happy man.

Actually, no, "most games" were not like that "back in the day,"...Lol,...;)

This thing has got me puzzled because it has just started happening in my game--I've progressed fairly far and never had a moment of static in the voice overs, until now. Mainly right now, it seems to be an issue primarily for my main character's voice--the others sound 95% free of static and the sound effects continue to be 100% free of static. I'm working on this at the moment, but so far nothing I've tried has worked.

Edit: I've reinstalled and the static is now 95% gone. Strange.
