Charon121: Unfortunately, the excruciatingly slow mana recharge speed and the scarcity of mana-replenishing items don't make the wizard class viable. Which is a shame, since there's quite a number of spells in the game. But I agree that melee alone would be boring for an entire playthrough.
Are you fucking shitting me?
If you're a dumbass, then maybe, sure.
But if you're smart, you will have Flesh on level 3 or 4 by the time you exit the black lantern. Just use your spells smart and you should have plenty to go around even without using Magia plants... which are plentifull and weigh abso-fucking-lutely nothing.
In fact, if you have at least 8 points in Power, you have a mana recovery of 5 points per tick... that pays off quickly, especially while exploring or taking notes. plus: you make sure to always cast a healing spell, before you max out... which does give you experience equal to the amount of health it would heal, even at max health.
As early as the second dungeon, you can get the Cloak of Shadows spell... which increases your evasion... at Void LV10 it makes you unhittable for the duration of the spell... there's also the Iron Skin spell from the earth class, which increases your defense to the point nothing is ever going to hurt you at lv10... plus you can cast it for cheap thanks to the Root armour!
There's also the water spell that protects you from all magic at level 10 as well as the fact that the freeze spell not only becomes much cheaper to cast, but also last a whole lot longer.
Also, the caster's main weapons are pretty good. One is BloodBane, a shuriken that inflicts anguish of boiling blood free of charge as often as you want, if the enemy is vulnerable while the other, SoulWrought is the second best sword in the game with a +2 to power.
Once you get through the beginning of the game, mages are the most broken thing in the entire game. It's mostly the Dark Lantern that is somewhat challenging early on.
