Okay. Maybe I'm dense, but there's something in the Dark Lantern catacombs that's driving me crazy.

Up in the NE corner are two teleporters. The first one sends me outside the regular map to an area with two stand-alone rooms. One has the talking book; been there, got the spell. Can't find a way into that second room, or out of this area at all. Been over every inch; nada. Of course I restored (great believer in Save Early, Save Often).

Noticed there was a plate behind that first portal. Got a bright idea. Stood in front, made a block, and pushed it past the portal onto the plate. That opened a way to the second portal. Aha! That's it.

Wrong. All that second portal does is send me to the corridor with the skulls, and right onto the plate that triggers them. Nipped back up and tried that portal again; same thing.

So what's the deal here? Do either of the portals have a connection with that second stand-alone room? Because that's where I want to go. I've done everything else in the Lantern, all levels. It's just this one thing I haven't been able to figure out. All help welcome.

P.S. Found a walkthru but it had nothing to help here.
If I remember correctly, once you get the book to teach you a spell, there's nothing more to do in the basement. You've probably picked up a key from one of the chests down there, so now you need to head to the upper floors and find the ghost of the wizard who lived in the tower. And you need the Sea Shell of summoning.

So you can't get out? And you've searched everywhere for secret walls? Maybe you could post a screenshot of your location on the map; they're very easy to export from the game. If all else fails, I can tell you how to teleport using hex save editing.
I think you missed where I said I'd done everything else in the place. No matter, attached is a screenshot of the area.

It shows the NE corner of the catacombs, and the mystery area. The blank room above me is the one I can't find a way into. Below me (couldn't fit it in) is the room with the talking book. All the rest of the area outside the catacombs proper is blank. No doors, portals, plates, nothing (except walls, and none illusory).

So maybe this will look familiar to you or someone else and tell me if this is a bug (no way to the room or out of the area) or how to get in there. Thanks.

I am stuck here as well, as of this message!
It appears that the teleporter tosses you into the wrong area, or at least outside of it. Before I saw your screen shot, I had thought the area was infinite in all directions.

Download a free hex editor (any will do), and load your most recent save. Go to 19475 (4C13h in hexadecimal) and count four and eight positions from it, those are the X and Y axis on the map respectively. Manipulate both values, save and load the game to see where you are. According to the map the previous user posted, he needs to reduce his X value by 6 and increase his Y value by 10 to find himself at the end of the narrow corridor. When I experimented with this, it appeared to me that the +/- values are reversed, so there's definitely some experimentation required. Just backup your save and you should be fine.

If you're not comfortable with hex editing, you can send me the save and I'll teleport you where you want to be on the map.
I thought teleporting out there was a bug and that out there was an area you weren't supposed to reach. Can someone confirm if this is a bug or not?
