I was surprised to find that there were console versions of this game. Is the one sold on this site the best version of the game? It being a platformer, does it feel better with a controller? Is it easy to map an Xbox fightpad to the game?

The version being sold on GOG is the 15th Anniversary re-release that was put together by the game's original author, Eric Chahi. The re-release features (optional) updated graphics and a bunch of extras including a documentary on the making of the game. The author has stated that it is the definitive version.

The original game appeared on the Amiga I believe, and was later ported to DOS and various console systems. I believe that some of the ports may have featured some additional content; this version definitely includes all of it (the DOS version did as well). The 15th Anniversary Edition you see here runs natively in Windows.

I've only ever played the game with a keyboard, back when I had the DOS version and then again with this version, and it works well. The controls are quite simple; all you need is the four arrow keys and the space bar (the "action" button). The up arrow will make your character jump. With a controller, using up to jump might be awkward so it's possible that with a controller attached you will use two buttons, one for jump and one for "action". But I'm not sure since I've never tried it. Can anyone else report on how it plays with a controller?

It's actually both ways - up jumps AND there's a button for jumping.

hello

Yes, this version that is sold on gog.com is described by the creator of the game himself as the "ultimate edition" of the game, the original retail version on disk came with a Nasty installation limit, fortunately the game is here, DRM Free at gog with loads of additional goodies and right now it's half price in the christmas sale! I would advise everyone to buy and play this amazing game :)
