Anno 1602 featured multi player, which I have very fond memories of playing at LAN parties. I understand, that the store page says "single player", but are there plans to bring back multi player in an update?

Actually, Anno 1602 has a multiplayer (LAN), but the info was not added to the game page, we'll do that ASAP. :)
