Flaank: i cant start a new game or load a saved one. all i get is a download failed. it just started doing this today. can someone please help me?? (ANNO 1404: Gold Edition)
I have this game on Steam (I came over to GOG to see it multiplayer is better) and have encountered the same problems. Basically, Ubisoft created a system for online verification that they have since abandoned, leaving players in the lurch. This problem will happen often.
The only way to deal with it is deleting your online profile (Main Menu>Player Profile>Profile Management) then recreating it. This will delete, or mess up, your saved games but Ubisoft will not help in any way, shape, or form. My advice is to create an offline profile for single player and LAN games, and use the online one only for multiplayer. You will have to do this as long as you play online. I was hoping, somehow, GOG had worked around this issue, but it seems they have not. Unfortunately, it appears that Anno 2070 has the same issues, and Anno 2205 is not that good of a game. So we are stuck with the crippled game Ubisoft gave us, but it's a great game.
