I just wanted to drop by an tell you about a small script I have written to patch Anno 1503 to support widescreen resolutions: https://gitlab.com/HiPhish/anno-1503-resolution-patcher (GitHub mirror https://github.com/HiPhish/anno-1503-resolution-patcher)
If you are confused as to what this patcher does different from the already available widescreen patch, the answer is nothing. This patcher exists as documentation and so the patch can be reproduced even if the other download ever gets lost. You can read more in the README of the project, so I won't repeat myself here.
