I'm really interested in this game but what I've heard about the crashes is making me wary.

I'm not very patient when it comes to crashes but at the same time I hate just leaving a game due to frustration over a crash. So I really don't want to put myself in a position where I'll be fighting the game in order to play it.

How buggy is the game? Would I be encountering crashes like every 10 minutes? Has GOG's optimizations improved the stability on the original in your opinion? (Most of the reviews I read where dated back in 2001, so the reviews would have talked about the bugs that existed back then)

I don't care about the game doing weird buggy things, the only thing I'm concerned about it is constantly losing progress due to a crash and becoming a paranoid save freak. :/

Dizzard: Snip
I've played a good 10 hours or so of the GOG version and have had ZERO crashes. All the bugs I've encountered have not caused the game to crash, have not resulted in lost saves and have, so far, not broken the game (i.e., put it in a non-completable state).

Some of the bugs may cause sub-quests to become in-completable though.

There is apparently a fight with a door lord later in the game that could cause it to crash, but if I recall correctly, that fight is optional and there is a fix available (although I have yet to apply it - you can find the fix in the Bugs thread if you need it).
Only common crash appears to be during the Whackmaster training. Usually crashes out to desktop, however there is an autosave about 2 mins before when you start the training and just loading back up onto that autosave and it works fine afterwards. So you dont lose any play time at all really, works fine second time during that training. Since then havnt had a single crash at all and about 8 hours in now roughly.

The game is patched up to version 46 which was the last community patch released.

Few minor bugs here and there, like mentioned there is a tiny little fix for the doorlord in the bug thread. None of these minor bugs damage the game in any way though and is very playable.
Thanks I think I'll get the game.

Glad to see it's not too big a problem.

I found some bugs regarding the ever-awesome speedup button (it's \ by default) where it sometimes messes up the combat; the game gets confused who's turn it is and the game gets stuck waiting.

But I believe that doesn't happen when you don't fast-forward though the animations.
