Has anyone running Anachronox on Windows 7 with a Creative soundcard figured out how to activate EAX sound? I tried manually adding it to Creative Alchemy, but no go.

It definitely is on the list of games with EAX support (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_EAX_support) but the relevant Alchemy help page (http://connect.creativelabs.com/alchemy/Lists/Games/DispForm.aspx?ID=171) notes EAX can't be activated.

Any help/tips appreciated,

P.

I just a read a thread on VOGONS about this. Apparently an unofficial patch (developed by one of the original developers) removes EAX support. I assume that the patch is pre-applied to the GOG version which just makes sense because it apparently fixes a few important things about the game. I don't know why he removed EAX, though.

I remember reading many years ago that it never worked properly and caused crashes. Even before the unofficial patch disabled it people were advising each other to never turn it on. The patch was just to prevent people from having that bad experience.

Thanks for the info. I already assumed a thing like this since multiple games with EAX have issues, usually just a broken implementation, though, where the effects will not work properly.
