Hi,

I am having a weird issue while playing Amnesia Dark Descent: both in-game and in the menu, the mouse cursor sometimes jumps/snaps all over the screen, in any given direction, one at a time. In the main menu, this means that sometimes the cursor snaps in a random direction whenever I try to reach a window/button, towards the edges/corners. In the game, I walk with my character and suddenly my vision randomly snaps/jumps either on the floor or on the ceiling. This is clearly a game issue since this is the only game which I've had this problem with. I am using Win10 64-bit and Razer mouse.

I tried the following: I unplugged my Razer mouse (laser) with another Razer mouse (optical), both set at 1800 dpi, nothing has changed. I played with some settings inside the game (resolution, smooth mouse, sensitivity); I tried to set Override high DPI scaling behavior on the game shortcut; I unplugged my Xbox controller.

In the meantime I opened also a ticket at GOG. Does anyone know how I can fix this issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Silviu

I'm having the exact same issue. Did you find any solution to this?
Try one or a combination of these:
- Run the game in windowed mode;
- Run the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP or 7;
- Run the game with the "Override high DPI scaling behavior" option enabled: set the scaling to be performed by application.
None of the found solutions are working for me: compatibility mode, resolution or refresh speed change, override high DPI, administrator mode, and some others. I replicated this issue on another computer running, again, Windows 10, and the game was unplayable. I ran this game on a Windows XP virtual machine, the issue disappeared. So I suspect this is something peculiar to Windows 10 (and I cannot blame the developer, this OS doesn't appear in the original system requirements).

But I found the solution: http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-7878-post-70551.html#pid70551

Even though the reported issue was not mine, somehow it made sense to me since my mouse cursor had the tendency to always start the game in the upper left corner (it jumped in that place as soon as I double clicked the executable file). The problem seems to be the sdl.dll file (Simple DirectMedia Layer) from the game folder. So, I replaced my sdl.dll file with the version 1.2.13 which can be downloaded from the above link; the version 1.2.15 is NOT working for me, it has the same issue as the original version 1.2.14. Whereas before I couldn't enter the next room from the first level without having my vision moved all over the screen, now I've been playing the game for more that 2 hours, the issue seems to be gone. I even reinstalled the game just to replicate the issue, and it was there; I replaced my file with the version 1.2.13, the problem is solved.

Whoever has this issue, I encourage to try this out, for me it 100% worked.
I did some more research on this since I noticed that on Steam the game runs without any issues even though it also has SDL.dll version 1.2.14. However, the Steam version also includes SDL2.dll which is a newer version of the original SDL.dll. Infact it actually uses SDL2.dll instead because you can remove SDL.dll and the game runs just fine.

I downloaded the latest SDL2.dll from the official source (libsdl.org) (32bit since Amnesia is 32bit) and tested it on the Steam version by replacing their SDL2.dll (version 2.0.4) with the newer 2.0.7 to see if it worked, and it did. So I tried adding the SDL2.dll into the GOG Amnesia folder to see if the executable would use that one instead. It didn't work even after renaming the SDL2.dll to SDL.dll.

So I'm not competent enough to make the game use SDL2.dll instead of SDL.dll on GOG but I think there's the proper solution in which GOG needs to look into. I'm pretty certain that Amnesia: The Dark Descent is currently unplayable for everyone with Windows 10 and the game on GOG. The Windows 10 fall creators update probably broke it since the problem seems new.

Nice discovery. I wish this was not the case and this game ran better from the GOG release, and not Steam. I opened a ticket at GOG and closed it with my above solution, I hope that they care enough and that they look into this. So the aftermath is like this: whoever uses the Steam version has the sdl.dll file version 2.x and the game runs just fine; whoever uses the GOG release should (for the time being) replace the sdl.dll file with the version 1.2.13.
Thank you guys for researching and solving this, I had the same issue and you saved me hours of work!
